Future Self is Jan Warner, a Swedish-born music producer based in Bristol, UK for the last decade. Releasing on a variety of labels such as Street Tracks, Stress Records, Traum Schallplatten and his own imprint Self Control.

The past

The relationship with music can be traced back to the childhood and Sweden’s policy of giving every child the opportunity for free music lessons. Tinkering around on the piano developed as he invested in an Amiga 500 in the late 80’s. After a decade spent in the Amiga scene, his first vinyl record came in 2001, a 12-inch released on Pressure Cut Recordings.

Over the course of the next ten years he produced variety of releases and played in Europe, UK, US, and Sweden. Hw has performed live music for astronauts, composed scores for computer games, promoted club nights and hosted radio shows.

As he moved through genres, his house offering Response was licensed by Carl Cox in 2011 for his ‘Space: The Revolution’ album. Spreading his creative wings further, his debut LP, Atlas bubbled over with influences from a multitude of genres, while working with a variety of musicians and vocalists.

The future

Fast forward to 2020, building on the foundations, the Future Self project was born just before the global pandemic. Inspired by current music as well as the roots from the 90s, the music spans the spectrum from deep midnight dub to arpeggio-driven progressive house.

He released early releases with Stress Records and Traum Shcallplatten before setting up his own imprint Self Control Records. With guidance and mentorship from of Danny Berman and other industry figures, Jan formed the label to allow himself more control over releases and to provide a solid base for future ventures.

With steady support from BBC, Rinse FM and other radio stations, as well as DJ support from Nick Muir, Jooris Vorn, Solarstone, Waze, Posthuman and Ewan McVicar and many more, he has released multiple EPs on Waze & Odyssey’s Street Tracks and a steady stream of releases on Self Control Records. The future is as bright as ever.
